Yahoo! launches tool to verify site indexing

August 11, 2006 | Search Engine News, Yahoo!

Yahoo! launched a very simple tool today to verify how Yahoo! “sees” your web site. Give it a try here:

Yahoo! Site Explorer

I ran a test with HTMLCenter (www.htmlcenter.com). Below is the resulting image after I ran the search.

Yahoo Site Explorer

Image Caption Descriptions:

  1. Enter your site url (i.e. www.whatever.com) into the box and click Explore URL
  2. If your site is not listed click the Submit Webpage or Site Feed button to submit your website/feed to Yahoo! for inclusion. They state that it could take 6-8 weeks before your site is indexed.
  3. Inlinks - In this example, HTMLCenter has 37,000 inlinks to the site. Inlinks (also known as inbound links) are a count of the number of sites that link to yours. Search engines place a heavy weight on these links because they count as “validity” for your content
  4. Pages - this count is the total number of pages listed in Yahoo! for your site. In this case there are 4,237 pages from HTMLCenter inside the Yahoo! engine. If this number is not accurate for your site, I would suggest you follow item #2 above.
